Friends of the Parks in Fayette County in association with Trees Lexington was awarded a Lex Grow Trees Grant to plant 50 small 3-gallon trees at Clays Mill Elementary School. This initiative is part of an Eagle Scout Project with the Boy Scouts of America. The Eagle Scout candidate, under the guidance of a professional arborist, a landscape architect, and a scout mentor, developed a tree site plan, coordinated with Fayette County Public Schools, and prepared the grant application for the project.
The upcoming volunteer event will accomplish a large-scale planting across the 14-acre property. Volunteers may sign up via the Sign-Up Genius link to participate for the entire day or in two-hour increments. Due to limited supplies, volunteers are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves, as activities will include digging, planting, mulching, and watering the trees.
